What is an eSIM and how does it work?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a SIM card built right into your phone. Instead of inserting a plastic card, you download an operator profile by scanning a QR code.
How it differs from a regular SIM
- There is no physical card to lose or damage
- You can keep several profiles on the same phone
- You install it from home, without going to a shop
- You can use it alongside your main SIM
Why it suits travel
When you travel, you buy a data plan for your destination, install it before you leave and turn it on when you arrive. Your main SIM stays in the phone, so WhatsApp and calls keep working with your own number.
What you need
- A phone that supports eSIM
- An internet connection (WiFi) while installing
